Boston College is hosting the ACC tournament at Fenway Park in 2009. Not sure how that's going to work out considering the dominance in the ACC lies in the ACC's southernmost schools (Florida St, Miami and Clemson) for the most part. It'll be a nice scene, but the conferences that have given a look at playing at a MLB park have gone back to their routes. I remember the Big 12 played at the Ballpark in Arlington...

ACC Baseball Tournament Moves to Fenway Park

The tournament will come to Boston in 2009

May 17, 2006

BOSTON (AP) -The Atlantic Coast Conference baseball tournament is heading to Fenway Park.

The league will play its 2009 championship in the home of the Red Sox and down the street from the ACC's newest member, Boston College. It will be the first league tournament to be held in Boston since BC joined the conference in 2005.

"Coming to Fenway will be a wonderful experience for those involved in the programs, as well as the fans that follow our ACC baseball teams," commissioner John Swofford said Wednesday on a conference call. "Fenway is one of the most revered sports venues in all of America."

The baseball tournament will return to Jacksonville, Fla., in 2007 and '08 before heading to Fenway, which is expected to hold 38,000 seats by then. The Red Sox got the go-ahead from Major League Baseball to bid; the ACC tourney will force the team onto the road for a 10-game road trip.

Actually, Virginia is one of the better teams, and I would consider them a northern team, but we are talking 3 years from now, so who knows who will be the power of the ACC then. I never expected UNC to be the cream of the crop, but looks like this year they are, as much as it pains me to say that.

Yep, the ACC has that power each year in Florida St and Miami, but you never know who will rise. It's not as clear-cut as it is in other conferences. I wish some of the lesser known BKB schools would rise to the top in the ACC. We may just see that in the next few years...

Fenway, I still don't think it'll draw well. For the opening Minute Maid Classic which features Texas college baseball clubs (Texas, Houston, Rice, A&M) and typically features a regional foe (Tulane, LSU or Arkansas) and one out of stater (K-State and Ohio St have been here before) hasn't drawn over 20,000 for a game.

It doesn't matter where you hold it, it's not going to draw that many fans. From a player's perspective I'm sure they'll all be pumped to play in Fenway versus Raleigh NC.
