Eugene handles it all well as it relates to his weight issue being brought up. Says it 'was' an issue and he's working to get down 15, 20 pounds here before training camp begins. That'd put him in the 240 range. The article also talks about Eugene's fight for reps and how he has a way's to go to move up the ladder with the QBs they have in NOLA...

Saints would prefer to see less of rookie quarterback

312.

That's not only an area code for Chicago, but it's also the registered scale reading for the poundage mounted on the 6-foot frame of a quarterback -- which, if you care to use the imagination just a little, actually might have given Bruce Eugene a body proportion worthy of its own area code.

"Just eating," Eugene said, before adding that the stress of having family members displaced from New Orleans by Hurricana Katrina move into his place in Grambling contributed to the problem. "And eating. But that's not an excuse. It was taking my body for granted."

Which, more than anything, helped place a burdensome weight on Eugene's star-studded college career that now, as a free-agent rookie for his hometown Saints, he has to shed.

See, a player can compile all the impressive numbers in the world -- and Eugene did -- at Grambling State, including a Division I-AA-record 140 touchdown passes, a school-record 13,530 passing yards and 30 victories in 38 starts. But when he's carrying around so much excess baggage that college teammates and coaches nickname him the "Round Mound of Touchdown," it's catchy and cute to everyone except NFL coaches.

"I know it was an issue," Eugene said.

Bruce doesn't weigh 312 lbs... NO WAY!!!!!!! Bruce lost a lot prior to the combine and there's no way he still weighs 312 lbs.

Hopefully DeShazier was talking about his weight at Grambling. Just listened to WWL AM (870) and Bobby Hebert (former Saints QB, now sports talk host) really likes "Round Mound of Touchdown" and thinks he needs to get down to 235.
