Atlanta's diminuitve fireballer wins the NL Rookie of the year unanimously. Only the 10th time a player has been the unanimous selection (32 first place votes) and the first since Pujols in 2001.

Atlanta firstbaseman Freddie Freeman finished second in the balloting, Philadelphia's Vance Worley finished third, and National's catcher Wilson Ramos finished fourth. Not a bad showing by the NL East.

Fixed it for ya! (;-)

A shame he didn't finish the save that counted the most. :(

You'd think they would have kidnapped someone other than a league minimum guy.

I blame it on the daggum hurricane and a three day layoff. Don't try to convince me otherwise.

Closer as ROY. LOL. Especially one that led the majors in blown saves.

I'm sorry none of your players will win ROY, MVP and Cy Young like you believe they all should.

Sure. I guarantee we will have a Cy Young and and MVP before the Braves do. Bryce Harper is going to be the best player in baseball very soon. Ripping up the AFL. Guy is once in a lifetime prospect. Not to mention Strasburg and Zimmerman are both better than anyone on the Braves.

Really seems like the Nats have a run on "once in a lifetime prospects."

Harper, at 19, has had 129 at bats at AA and is hitting and hit .256. Just for comparison, Jason Heyward, at 19, hit .352 in 162 at bats in AA. That is to say, let's hold off on calling him the best player in baseball.

Clayton Kershaw wins the Cy Young. Halladay, Lee, and Hamels finished 2, 3, and 5. Interestingly, Craig Kimbrel received some votes as well.

Look at his AFL stats. That is a league full of minor league all stars. Didn't want to put power stats out there, huh? Comparing Harper to Heywerd is like comparing Andrew Luck to Armanti Edwards in terms of prospects.

You are right. I left off the "power stats." Bryce Harper hit 3 homers and sluggeed .395. Jason Heyward hit 7 and slugged .611.

No one is debating the kid is a good prospect. He is not once in a lifetime prospect. Just because the Nationals drive media hype about a kid does not make him Griffey Junior. He may end up being a good or great major league player, but he's not the only good prospect in the minor leagues.

Washington Natinals. 2012 World Series Champions.

Stacked from top to bottom with world-class talent. I really see no need to even play the games.

He hit 6 homers in 20 games in the AFL. You also left out his single A stats as this is his first year in the minors as a high school senior. And to say Harper is 19, when he just turned 19, and then say Heywerd is 19 when he turned 20 that same season is a little silly, no?

But, just to correct these stats, here are Bryce Harpers stats for his FIRST season in the minor leagues. Split between A,AA, and the AFL. Batted .311 23 HR 84 RBIs .550 SP .400 OBP 30 SB.

Now, go find me Heywerd's first year minor statistics. LOL

You are (as usual) completely missing the point. You stated that Harper will soon be the best player in baseball. You also stated he's a once in a life time prospect. I am only indicating to you that the Braves (I choose them because I know their farm system) had a guy come through their system who put up exceedingly comparable numbers at the same age. I'm sure if you dug around in other team's farm systems you'd find the same thing.

At the end of the day, Harper could be a very good player. Heck, he may one day be the best player in the majors. Right now, though, he's a prospect, and he's put up just as good of numbers as other players did who were ahead of their competition.

If you haven't discovered your prone to exaggeration yet, more Heyward statistics (which are arguably more impressive) probably won't convince you otherwise.

His numbers were in no way comparable. Bryce hit more homers in one season in the minors as a high school senior than Heyward hit in his 4 year minor league career.
