With the retirement of head coach Bob Spoo, both coordinators were told they were not in the running for the head position and to look for other jobs.

Hmm. I didn't realize Wittke ended up back at EIU. Chris Hatcher pretty much had him lined up as our OC before Northern Illinois jumped in.

Wittke knows the FCS landscape quite well. He might be able to take his offense to Cullowhee and provide Western Carolina some stability.

WCU sure needs to stay away from running the option ;)

EIU has named 4 finalists....

Dino Babers, assistant coach/special teams coordinator at Baylor University. Babers was an EIU running backs coach in 1987 under Spoo.

Jeff Choate, assistant coach/special teams coordinator at Boise State University. Choate was the special teams coordinator for EIU in 2005.

Mark Hutson, interim head coach at Tulane University. Hudson was interim head coach for EIU in 2006 while Spoo sat out for medical reasons. He was also Offensive coordinator for 4 seasons.

Randall McCray, assistant coach/linebackers and special Teams at the University of Pittsburgh
