Former Tennessee head coach Buzz Peterson has landed on the campus of Coastal Carolina. Peterson will be introduced as the Chanticleers men’s basketball coach at a press conference on Thursday. Peterson replaces Pete Strickland, who was fired following a 10-19 season.
Peterson spent the last four years in Knoxville compiling a 61-59 record, but not reaching the NCAA Tournament. He won the 2001 NIT at Tulsa and reached the NCAA Tournament at Appalachian State. Peterson played college basketball at North Carolina winning a national championship as a teammate of Michael Jordan.
Peterson was an early target and clearly the top choice for the Coastal Carolina athletic department. Terms of the deal are not known, but Peterson did receive a $1.4 million dollar buyout last month.
